Stress can be defined as a state of emotional or mental strain which in most cases have adverse effects. One is said not to be a good state of mind when they are stressed. Many things can cause stress. People react to the causes of stress differently. Our workplaces can be our source of stress. Among the things at a workstation that can lead to stressful situations are long working hours, working under dangerous conditions, and also being unhappy with the job. There are also life stresses. The causes of life stress are divorce, getting married, loss of a job, the death of a loved one among others.
Sometimes however, stress can come from inside. One might stress themselves when they worry too much about certain things. Worrying about certain issues such as the fear of uncertainty, attitude and perceptions, unrealistic expectations, and major life changes can result in stress. Stress is not something that is healthy. People are advised to try as much as they can to relieve themselves from stress. Stress has negative health implications. These include a headache, fatigue, difficulty in sleeping and irritability. Some of these conditions are vital. The good news is that there are ways to manage stress.
Some of these ways are as follows. Stressed people are advised to avoid caffeine, alcohol, and nicotine. Nicotine and caffeine are examples of stimulants. People mistake these substances for reducing the stress levels but in the real case they increase it. Alcohol is a depressant when taken in large quantities, however, it is not a helpful way of dealing with stress. Getting more sleep is a simple way that can help a stressed person to reduce the stress levels. Lack of sleep has been identified to be a cause of stress. There are certain relaxation techniques that can assist someone to reduce stress. Most of them are tried and tested.
The other means of stress management is through doing physical exercises. There is an increase in the stress hormones such as cortisol and adrenaline when someone is stressed. The levels of these hormones can be increased further by doing exercise. Iit is not, however, necessary that the exercise be vigorous. Brisk walking in fresh air can be very helpful. Working out on a daily basis is even a much better remedy.
Exercise helps in stress management following certain mechanisms. One of the direct stress-busting effects of exercise is that it pumps up your endorphins. The endorphins are known as brain’s feel-good transmitters. The irritations of the day can be forgotten following an exercise session. The mood of a person can be improved following an exercise session. This is done by increasing one’s self-confidence, it can help someone to relax and can also lower the symptoms of mild depression and anxiety.
